Whole Wheat American Biscuits

Have jingle bells started ringing your hearts...? Here my little Santa always sings this song, so when I'm doing some work in the kitchen, it keep on hearing in the ears...... Have you noticed our new Christmas logo? How is it...?

Whole wheat American biscuits are very flaky and an excellent option for the Christmas breakfast.  Even though it is known as biscuit, it has a bread like texture which does not require a beater. Thank Lord for all your gifts. This recipe is adapted from Taste of Home's Holiday and Celebrations Cook book by Trisha Kruse. You can have this with jam (apple jam) or homemade mayonnaise or sausage gravy or chicken curry or any other gravy.

Makes 10 to 12 biscuits
Ingredients:
One cup of whole wheat flour (I used Aashirvaad Atta)
One cup of all purpose flour
3 teaspoons of baking powder
One tablespoon brown sugar
One teaspoon baking soda
A pinch of salt
3/4 cup to one cup of milk
1/4 cup cold butter

Method:
Preheat your oven to 4250F.

In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients well- flours, baking powder, baking soda, brown sugar,  salt.

Cut the cold butter into small pieces and add to the dry ingredients. Mix it well so that the dry ingredients resemble coarse crumbs.

Now add milk in three additions to moisten it. Knead it 15 times in a floured surface. Roll it into 1/2 inch thickness and cut it with a cookie cutter.  Place these on an ungreased baking sheet and simply brush with milk on the top.

Bake at 4250F for 13 minutes or until golden brown.
Note:
You can also stuff some veggie, Mayonnaise or cheese or butter to make more delicious.

Anish really loved it and recommended to make it more frequently. So if you stop buying bread from the stores, this is a good choice for you to fill your dear ones tummy..... :-)
